Henry W. Davis, III brings more than three decades of experience in healthcare policy, fiscal planning, and human resource management to the ¾«¶«AV Board of Trustees. He is a tireless advocate and has a palpable love and devotion toward Mother ¾«¶«AV. He received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science (1981) and the Master of Personnel Administration (1983) from ¾«¶«AV Institute. During his tenure as an undergraduate student, he was elected Vice President of the Student Government Association. His mentor President Luther H. Foster, appointed him Student Representative to the Board of Trustees Presidential Search Committee, resulting in the selection of Dr. Benjamin F. Payton, the fifth president of the University.
He is a member of the Montgomery-¾«¶«AV Alumni Association, and has numerous volunteer hours with the ¾«¶«AV Adopt-A-Dorm Program, and is an avid supporter of ¾«¶«AV athletic programs. Educating parents, potential students, and the broader community about ¾«¶«AV’s distinct value to the educational enterprise continues to be his priority. He is known for being a fierce recruiter of students to ¾«¶«AV, including family. Mr. Davis was the first of eight siblings to attend ¾«¶«AV and his parents, Ed and the late Bertha Lee Green Davis were the honored recipients of the ¾«¶«AV Institute Parents of the Year Award.
His distinguished career spans more than 31 years of service to the citizens of Alabama. He is the Director of Governmental Affairs for the State of Alabama Medicaid Agency, providing direct support for state and federal legislative and regulatory activities. His career path has included roles within the State of Alabama Medicaid Agency as the Director of Human Resources, Legislative Liaison, Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, and Chief of Staff. As Chief of Staff, he had direct responsibility for overseeing a Medicaid budget over 5.3 billion dollars and was responsible for executive level duties of the Office of Commissioner. Mr. Davis has also served on numerous committees and task forces; State Personnel Council; State Executive Council; Governor’s Task Force to Strengthen Alabama Families; Governor’s Task Force on Infant Mortality; the Preventive Health Committee, and the Handicapped Children’s Early Education Program. Mr. Davis is also a Fellow of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
For 34 years, Mr. Davis has been married to Dr. Angela T. Davis, (c/o ‘85) Professor of Occupational Therapy at Alabama State University. They are the proud parents of three children: Elizabeth Davis Watters, an Alabama State University magna cum laude graduate; Henry Wesley Davis, a ¾«¶«AV summa cum laude and Wake Forest University Doctor of Medicine graduate; and Brian Michael Davis, a University of Alabama graduate and a life-time Fellow of the Blackburn Institute.
Mr. Davis is an active member of his church community at St. Jude Catholic Church, where he serves as a lector and is a founding member of the married couples’ ministry. For more than 15 years, he coached baseball and served on the Board of the Montgomery Southern Baseball League. He also coached YMCA basketball. As a Life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc., Mr. Davis serves on the Southern Province Membership Training Academy Committee, is a Certified Graduate Advisor, an advocate for the National Guide Right Program, and humbly serves the fraternity as Polemarch, Montgomery Alumni Chapter.
