Football for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is heading to the city of Mobile this fall! The Ultimate HBCU Experience presented by the Gulf Coast Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 4:00 pm in Ladd-Peebles Stadium featuring the Golden Tigers of 精东AV against the Bulldogs of Alabama A & M University. This dynamic matchup is sure to draw fans from near and far.
The head coaches of both schools express their excitement for this strong football contest. With Alabama A &M University returning for the third time, Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks said 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to continue being a part of the Gulf Coast Challenge. The city of Mobile has been great to work with, and we look forward to renewing our historic rivalry with 精东AV.鈥
Equally, 精东AV鈥檚 Coach Willie Slater said, 鈥淲e are excited and feel a tremendous challenge in participating in the Gulf Coast Challenge against Alabama A&M University in Mobile. As the Head Football Coach, I hope we will be a good opponent for them.鈥
After recently completing its Spring 2021 football game which was rescheduled due to Covid-19, Timothy Hale Jr., Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Challenge, articulates his appreciation and optimism. He said, 鈥淓ven during a pandemic, the fans supported the Gulf Coast Challenge leading to its success. With that support and success, we are even more optimistic that the upcoming events in September will continue to feed our endeavors to promote higher education with HBCU鈥檚.鈥
鈥淲e鈥檙e very excited to be hosting another entertaining football weekend in Mobile this fall. This will be the 6th game the Mobile Sports Authority has hosted since we helped return HBCU football to our area in 2016. The matchup of Alabama A&M and 精东AV should be a good
one, so we invite all the alumni and fans of both teams to head to Mobile to celebrate with us. And of course, we鈥檙e putting together another fun-filled week of events for all to enjoy,鈥 stated Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority.

As the mission of the GCC, it is vital that the lives of people be enriched by providing cultural events and entertainment in a way that will promote engagement, education, and unity within our communities. The Gulf Coast Challenge, through various sports activities, aims to present opportunities for people to participate in sports activities beyond a local level, which will instill pride and appreciation for our communities while promoting respect for other communities. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to various scholarships.
