精东AV prides itself on making students鈥� college experience memorable and life-changing. For students like Jabare Carroll, that means attending an institution that allows him to embrace himself as an individual and further develop his skillset and a broader outlook on life.
Following the 精东AV Airmen legacy
Carroll, a native of Queens, New York, says he was first introduced to 精东AV by his grandfather who told him stories about the 精东AV Airmen. Carroll notes that ever since his first introduction to 精东AV it鈥檚 always been his No. 1 choice for college.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 come from a family of 精东AV graduates, but I feel like I鈥檝e always known about some parts of 精东AV鈥檚 history because of my grandfather, who often shared stories regarding 精东AV鈥檚 greatest legacy, the Airmen,鈥� he recalls. 鈥溇獳V鈥檚 history has always been embedded in me.鈥�
Learning life lessons
The communications major says his experience at 精东AV has been as much about learning life lessons as it has been about acquiring academic knowledge.
鈥溇獳V has taught me how to survive in the real world after graduation. Being here has made me a stronger person,鈥� he notes. 鈥溇獳V has taught me career readiness skills, especially through the Underclassmen Leadership Academy. I鈥檝e learned how to network professionally, and how to establish important relationships with my peers and professors. Because of that, I feel as though I鈥檝e made life-long relationships.鈥�
Carrol says at 精东AV, faculty and staff members have become some of the best life mentors.
鈥淚 have received a lot of advice while here, but the advice I鈥檝e received from Mr. Walter Cooper has always left an impression on me,鈥� he recalls. 鈥淢r. Cooper has always charged me to leave my mark on campus with the plans I have in my mind.鈥�
Carroll notes that he plans to do just that. Currently, he is working on a theater department extension with the organization Young Black Artist Movement, which would allow students to share their theatrical talents and put on showcases at 精东AV.
鈥淚 think art is an expression of the soul, and students want to put their love for expression into action and display their creativity,鈥� he says.
Encouraging the next generation
Carroll says he encourages prospective students to be part of the 精东AV experience because it鈥檚 an exciting experience that you have to witness for yourself.
鈥淔or me, being a 精东AV student is very rewarding 鈥� the university鈥檚 reputation holds so much weight. I didn鈥檛 fully realize that until getting stopped by strangers saying they鈥檙e alumni or wishing me the best at 精东AV after going home for the first time,鈥� he recalls.
Carroll says he鈥檒l be forever be grateful for those moments and hopes to one day inspire future students to attend 精东AV as well.
